Marie “Murr” Sawyer was an active member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ.

She was married to Ed Sawyer on February 18, 1949. They were married for 55 years before he died in 2004.

She was baptized into Christ in the Jones Creek beside the Rock Church Church of Christ.

She was a great cook, always cooking for her family and for families in need.

She spent several years working alongside her husband with the Sojourners—helping at churches and Bible camps in multiple states, including Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Florida.

When she married, she was an employee of South Central Bell. She was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young and worked as a bookkeeper. Later in life, after her children were grown, she went to school and became a CNA. For a number of years, she worked at the former McFarland Hospital in Lebanon and St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

As for Murr’s life, she was a faithful Christian, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a beautiful example of the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31. She was loved by one and all.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday afternoon, December 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. from the Walnut Street Church of Christ. Bro. Steve Baggett and Marie’s family will conduct her service.
