The Dickson Parks and Recreation Department is closing out its summer performance series with a special showing of an all-time favorite movie in Holland Park on Friday, Sept. 5.
The Music in the Park Series was scheduled to close out with a special performance by Burns native Jason Grove, who is currently pursuing his songwriting and performing career in Texas. But a scheduling conflict forced the cancellation of the concert.
Instead, the Parks and Recreation Department will present a special free outdoor showing of the classic 1985 adventure comedy movie “The Goonies.”
Directed by Richard Donner (“The Omen,” “Superman” and “Lethal Weapon”) from a screenplay by Chris Columbus (“Home Alone,” “Gremlins” and “Young Sherlock Holmes”) based on a story by Steven Spielberg (“Jaws,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T. the Extraterrestrial” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”), “The Goonies” follows a group of boys who find a treasure map that leads them on a grand adventure.
The film’s cast includes Sean Astin (“Rudy,” “The Lord of the Rings” and “Memphis Belle”), Josh Brolin (“Hollow Man,” “No Country for Old Men” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”), Corey Feldman (“Gremlins,” “Stand by Me” and “The Lost Boys”), the film debut of Keri Green (“Lucas”), Ke Huy Quan (“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” and Academy Award-winner for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”) and Joe Pantoliano (“Risky Business,” “The Fugitive” and “The Identical,” which filmed many scenes in Dickson).
“When plans for this month’s Music in the Park hit a snag, we called an audible and swapped to a Movie in the Park instead,” said Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator Nikki Holland. “We know a lot of folks will be cheering on Creek Wood and Dickson County at the big game, but not everyone is a football fan. So, if you’re not in the stands Friday night, come join us at Holland Park for “The Goonies.” Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and your favorite snacks for a throwback adventure under the stars.”
The free movie starts at 7:00 pm Friday, Sept. 5, in Holland Park next door to the Clement Railroad Hotel Museum in downtown Dickson.
