Billy Joe Lamastus, a cherished pillar of the Dickson, TN community, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at TriStar Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, TN. Born on December 20, 1949, in the same town he would later leave a lasting legacy, Billy Joe’s life was marked by dedication, love, and a passion for sports that touched countless lives.
Billy Joe was a man who found joy and purpose in the simple acts of service and mentorship. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and spent his career as an accountant for the State of Tennessee. His professional achievements, however, were just one facet of a life lived fully and generously.
A loving father and grandfather, Billy Joe’s greatest pride lay within the bounds of family. He is survived by his devoted daughters, Lisa (Chip) Staggs and B.J. Lamastus (Keith Garbinski); his adoring grandchildren, Samantha Hill (Logan Tincher), Callie Hill, and Kaitlyn Garbinski; and his cherished great-grandchild, Lannah Ray Tincher.
Billy Joe was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his treasured son, James Lee Lamastus, and his brother, Bobby James Lamastus.
His commitment to youth and sports was unparalleled. Billy Joe was instrumental in the growth and development of the Dickson County Youth Athletic Association (DCYAA). As a founder and leader of the Dickson County Umpire Association, he ensured that the values of sportsmanship and fair play were upheld in every game. His influence extended to the lush green fields of Buckner Park and across Dickson County, where he was also once the President of the DCYAA. He served the TSSAA with distinction, both as a Baseball and Basketball Official and as a Baseball supervisor. His voice was one of authority and his judgment trusted on the courts and diamonds where he officiated.
More than his roles and titles, it was Billy Joe’s heart that made him a mentor, teacher, and friend to so many. His memory will be treasured, his contributions to Dickson County forever appreciated, and his spirit will continue to guide those who had the privilege of knowing him.
