Surrounded by his loving wife, son, daughter-in-law, and multiple grandchildren, Jerry Allen Butler went to be with the Lord around 2:45 on the morning of June 10th from the comfort of his home. Jerry was a White Bluff native, born weighing 3.5 pounds to Fred and Vera Butler on December 5th, 1940.
He is survived by his devoted wife Adelaide; his sister Freddy; his three children Rhett (Debbie) Butler, Scarlett (Anthony) Butler, and Robin Butler; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter.
In 1962, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Adelaide. They had a loving marriage of 62 years, punctuated by raising a large and lively family, their shared faith, and numerous trips as far as Alaska. They had an open-door policy, with friends and family always rotating through. They became second parents to many and were adored by all.
Jerry was an active member of the White Bluff Church of Christ, attending since his childhood and later serving as a deacon for many years. He spent his Wednesdays delivering Meals on Wheels (in his beloved red Ford pickup) and his Sundays distributing communion at the local hospital and nursing home. He retired after 32 years from LaFarge in Nashville.
Above all else, Jerry loved people. In addition to his primary hobby of befriending strangers, Jerry was an avid sports fan of the Tennessee Volunteers, Vanderbilt Commodores, the Tennessee Titans and the Creekwood Redhawks. He also enjoyed simple pleasures such as mowing the lawn and his morning routine of reading the newspaper alongside a cup of coffee and glass of orange juice.
The flurry of visitors in his final days is a testament to Jerry’s impact on his family, church, and larger community.
He will be reuniting with his parents; seven siblings: Harry, Thomas Ray (Buddy), James Douglas (JD), Tennessee (Teenie), Doye; and numerous friends in Heaven.
Funeral services will be Saturday June 14, 2025 at 1 PM at White Bluff Church of Christ with Bro. Doug Couch officiating. Place of rest will be in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Friday June 13th from 4 to 8 PM at White Bluff Church of Christ and on Saturday from 11 AM until time of service. https://taylorsince1909.com
