John William Thomason, age 90 of Dickson, TN passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

John, known to many as “Jay” was born on March 26, 1934 in Bruceton, TN. He was a son of the late Melvin Harris Thomason and the late Amanda Mai Warren Thomason.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army with both local and foreign service. Like many Americans, Mr. Thomason became an autoworker in Michigan. He worked for the Chrysler Corporation for 37 years. Having lived during the “golden age” of radio, Jay had a great love for music. Many of his memories were tied to the big band and swing tunes of that era. He could often hear a song and instantly recall memories; those stories were always entertaining.

Actually, he was a quiet man, but when he spoke, it was time to sit down and listen. His love of music also led to a love of dancing, and just having fun being with people. Jay was a caring and big-hearted person. He had a genuine interest in the well-being of people and pets. He also enjoyed watching the news, stock market and sports, especially the great American sport of baseball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Abell Thomason; his daughter, Anita Thomason Noyse; his siblings, Imogene Sykes, Eulene Hoffman, Gordon Thomason, and Rebecca Cathey.

Mr. Thomason is survived by his granddaughter, Danielle Noyse; his stepchildren, Andy Abell (Tammie), Howard Abell Jr., Terri Abell Whipkey; sister, Ruby Sluck; step grandchildren, Brandon Abell, and Andrew Abell. Also surviving are 7 nieces, 6 nephews and other extended family members.

A funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Wes Sesler officiating. The interment will follow in the Slayden Baptist Church Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service. http://taylorsince1909.com
