Joyce Turnage Tidwell, age 93, of Burns, TN and formerly of Cahokia, IL, passed away at Alive Hospice on March 26, 2025.
Joyce was born in Memphis, TN on November 21, 1931, to the late George Lee Turnage and Georgette “Georgie” B. Schumaker Turnage.
Joyce was primarily a homemaker through the years but also had worked as a secretary when her children were older. Joyce was known for her love of baking, as her son said, “she was always baking!” She was always trying new recipes and sharing with friends. She even ventured into cake decorating for a short time. She also had a passion for sewing and crocheting.
After retiring, Joyce and her husband, Mason moved to Tennessee and built a log home on land belonging to Mason’s family. They began volunteering at the Renaissance Center in Dickson and enjoyed many years there. She loved having bird feeders and watching the birds. As Joyce became less active, she loved doing puzzle books, watching game show networks, and wouldn’t miss an episode of Wheel of Fortune. She had been a member of Bon Aqua United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mason Tidwell, her daughter, Karen Couch, her brother, George Turnage Jr, and her sister, Grace Cole.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Renois (David) of Belleville, IL, her son, Kenneth Tidwell (Winona) of Cahokia, IL, her grandchildren, Justin Couch, Cory Renois, Kerry Currens, Randy Currens, Benjamin Currens, Nick Tidwell, her sister Patricia Williams (Dave) of Indianapolis, IN, 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, friends, and special adopted daughter, Christy Groves.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 1 PM from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Melrose will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Parker Fowlkes Cemetery. https://taylorsince1909.com
