Mrs. Lula Mai Fortner Owens was of the Baptist faith and in addition to her work as wife and mother, was retired as a machine operator for the former Red Kap Industries in Dickson. She was married for more than 63 years to Dana Miles Owens, who predeceased her in 2023.
Born in Dickson County, Mai was the daughter of the late Leamon Levi and Josephine Lamastus Fortner. Mrs. Owens passed away early on Monday, June 2, 2025, at her home.
Additionally, she was preceded by her son, Dana Owens, Jr.; her sister, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Fortner; her brothers, Clayton and James Fortner; and by two grandchildren, Joseph and Jesse Sanders.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Coon (and Daniel) of Dickson, Vanessa “Joe” Owens of Dickson; Tina Rich (and Jeff) of White Bluff; by her grandchildren, Rebecca Johnson (Josh), Rachael Dearborn (Joe), J. D. Sumerour (Chandler), and Kayla Petty (Eddie; and by her great-grandchildren, Brysen, Jacob, Brenen, Brock, Elizabeth, Neyland, Jackson, and Asher; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Graveside services for Lula Mai Fortner Owens, age 82 of Dickson, will begin at 2 pm Saturday, June 7, 2025 from the Edwards Cemetery off Fannie Branch Rd. in Dickson. There will be no visitation at the funeral home prior to the burial. https://taylorsince1909.com
