Honeybees are seeing a decline in population in certain areas of the world, however, Tennessee is one place where honey bees get a lot of positive attention. Ranked as the 18th best place for beekeeping according to lawnlove.com, the state has the third most beekeeping associations in the country. One of those associations, the Dickson Bee Club, will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual World Honeybee Day Festival at the Bibb-White Bluff Civic Center on August 19 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

This fun-filled, free festival will have plenty of activities for the entire family. They will have everything from kid’s activities — such as free face painting and a “dress like a bee” contest — to food trucks, bands providing live music all day, a beer and mead garden tent, and more than 60 vendors selling honey and bee related products, flowers, arts and crafts, farm fresh produce, woodworking, and much more.

It is a great day to learn all about honeybees by getting up close and personal with them without the worry of getting stung at the Dickson Bee Club’s Booth. They will be offering information about beekeeping classes and beekeeping as a hobby, as well as about mentorships.

There will be educational programs throughout the day, and beekeepers will be around the event to answer any bee questions visitors may have. Some of the facts they will share is that bees have five eyes, an average hive houses 50,000 bees, and that bees have been around for more than 30 million years!

A completely dog-friendly event, if visitors don’t bring one with them, the Humane Society of Dickson County will be on hand with a few sweet pups looking for their forever home.

Ranger Tim from Montgomery Bell State Park will be in attendance with a few Birds of Prey from their Raptor Educational Facility. He will be giving live presentations throughout the day.

Proceeds from the raffle and silent auction will support the club’s beekeepers and the bees that they watch over.

The Bibb-White Bluff Civic Center is located at 1054 Old Charlotte Road in White Bluff.
