May 21, 2025 – A toddler was injured in an accidental shooting on Tuesday in Charlotte, WSMV reports.
Dickson County deputies say the 2-year-old boy was sitting in his highchair when his mother briefly stepped outside. During that time, the child reportedly managed to climb out of the highchair and reach toward the top of the refrigerator, where officers believe he may have been trying to grab toys.
A firearm was also stored in that area and the child was struck in the jaw. Investigators say the gun either fell or was unintentionally discharged by the child.
The toddler was taken to a Nashville hospital where he is expected to recover.
The district attorney’s office is investigating the shooting to determine whether any charges will be filed.
