A driver is facing charges after crashing into a squad car while on Interstate 40 in Dickson County on May 19, according to WKRN.

It happened in the westbound lanes near mile marker 181 just after midnight. Dickson County deputies were assisting Tennessee Highway Patrol with traffic control following a crash when a 2017 Nissan Rogue failed to merge over.

The Nissan crashed into the back of one of the unoccupied sheriff’s office squad cars, causing severe damage to both vehicles involved. The Dickson County deputy did not suffer any injuries but the Nissan’s driver, who was later identified as 24-year-old Jarret Wilson, was left with serious injuries.

Authorities say Wilson was driving under the influence when the crash occurred.

Wilson has been charged with DUI, reckless endangerment, and driving on a suspended license.

The crash remains under investigation by THP.
