Mayor Don L. Weiss Jr. swore in Tim Simmons as a new officer of the Dickson Police Department.

Mayor Weiss administered the Peace Officer’s Oath to Officer Simmons at the June 16, 2025, Finance and Management Committee meeting and welcomed him to the department.

A 1991 graduate of Leilehua High School in Wahiawa, Hawaii, Officer Simmons joined the U.S. Air Force and attended basic military training and the law enforcement academy at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas 1991-1992. He served 10 years on active duty in positions as base entry controller, patrolman, accident investigator, desk sergeant and K9 handler.

Following his active-duty service, Officer Simmons joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve Individual Mobilization Augmentee program, continuing to serve as a K9 handler and shift sergeant until he was recalled to active duty in April 2002. After completing his orders, he worked as a contractor with the U.S. State Department as a handler for Military Working Dogs (MWD) in its high-threat protection program protecting personnel and facilities in high-risk areas.

In January 2012, Officer Simmons joined the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a corrections officer, transport deputy, bailiff, patrolman and K9 handler. In May 2025 he transitioned from the sheriff’s office to the Dickson Police Department where he will serve as one of the department’s 11 School Resource Officers in the six county schools located within the city.
