Bernice Leota Stokes, 90 years of age, passed away at her residence on November 17, 2024.

She was born December 15, 1933, in White Bluff, TN, to the late William Albert Allen Sr. and Dorothy (Brown) Barfield Gentry. She married Kenneth Eugene Stokes on Sept 24, 1951.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Chuck Stokes (Shelby); daughter, Becky Clark (Jeff); grandchildren, Martha Harding (Keith), Matthew England (Amber), Brad Stokes (Lori), John Stokes, Allen Stokes (Cheyenne); great-grandchildren, Bethany Quinn (Tyler), Taylor Harding (Carter), Bryson Harding (Hannah), Gunner England, Oliver England, JP Stokes, and Simon Stokes; and great great grandchildren, Titus Quinn and Kohen Quinn.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by, husband, Kenneth Stokes; son, Kenneth Allen Stokes; and brothers, Billy Allen and James Barfield.

Bernice Stokes was an active member of the White Bluff Church of Christ and various community organizations. She was known to most as “the quilt lady” making hundreds of quilts over her lifetime. Some of those quilts still hang in the Tennessee State Museum and other government buildings. She was featured on Tennessee Crossroads and had a book published about her quilting. She made a lasting impact on anyone’s path that she crossed. She loved the Lord and let His Spirit guide her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Barfield/Stokes Scholarship fund. Checks can be made payable to White Bluff church of Christ.

Visitation and Funeral services will be at White Bluff Church of Christ. Visitation will be Friday, November 22, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 12:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Bro. Doug Couch officiating. Interment will follow in Dickson County Memorial Gardens.
