Annie Christine Luther Lazenby, age 95, passed from this life on Friday, September 17, 2021, at her home and surrounded by family. Born in Burns, Tennessee, on June 14, 1926, she was the daughter of Elbert Farmer Luther, Sr., and Helen Marie Ligon Luther.
Growing up in Burns, she attended Porter School, East Side School, and graduated from Dickson High School, class of 1944. She moved to Nashville where she became a “National Life” girl, working for the insurance company and living in McGannon Hall, a dormitory for working women. She loved the city life, going to movies, walking to Centennial Park to play tennis, and attending USO dances.
When friends introduced her to the handsome veteran, Pete Lazenby, a new course was set in her life. They became engaged in October of 1947 and married on January 10, 1948. In July of 1954, they purchased a dairy farm in White Bluff, TN, and another course was set. Those early years she spent raising their four children and helping with the work on the farm.
In 1963 she began working for Red Kap Industries, later Vanity Fair, becoming a payroll clerk. She saw many changes in the thirty years she worked for the company but adapted to the job and changes in technology.
After retirement she enjoyed spending time with Pete and their friends, working her many puzzles, playing Scrabble, playing with grandkids, helping with World Bible School, and visiting the nursing homes, but also caring first for her mother-in-law and then her husband.
She was a member of White Bluff Church of Christ for 67 years and loved her church family. She will always be remembered there for her sweet disposition and her beautiful white hair.
She is survived by her son Robert Lazenby (Carolyn); daughters Ann Lazenby Luther (Frank) and Alice Lazenby Poole; grandchildren Michael Cherry (Allison), Elena Poole Orr (Andy), Leslie Poole Ware (Jackson), Kimberly Cherry Halliburton (Jon), Alec Lazenby, Kaitlan “Katie” Lazenby, and Austin Lazenby; great-grandchildren Connor Cherry, Samuel Cherry, Sid Ware, Oliver Lazenby, Cadence Orr, Miles Ware, Grady Orr, and Emma Halliburton; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 52 years William Hugh Lazenby, daughter Laura Jean Lazenby, son-in-law Rick Poole, brothers Earl Luther and Elbert Farmer Luther Jr., and sisters Clara Luther Rubens Griffin and Imogene Luther Brown.
Visitation with the family will take place on Friday, September 24th, in the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 2:00 pm, conducted by Doug Couch. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery.
For those desiring, memorials are suggested to the White Bluff Church of Christ or the Alzheimer’s Association.
