Dorothy Louise Thompson, age 83, was born on March 23, 1942, in Nashville, TN, to the late Samuel and Fannie Mae Thompson. A lifelong resident of Kingston Springs/Belltown, she lived surrounded by a large and loving family. She entered her eternal rest on November 30, 2025.

Dorothy was the devoted mother of five children, each of whom she cherished deeply. A woman of faith, she accepted Christ, was baptized and spent many years worshiping at Boyce Street Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville. Later in life, she attended Greater Faith Fellowship Church in Dickson, TN, where she continued her walk with the Lord.

Dorothy dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked as a custodian with the Cheatham County School System until her retirement and also served as a housekeeper for many families throughout the years. She worked faithfully and tirelessly, fulfilling her commitment to serve for as long as her health allowed.

Family meant everything to Dorothy. She loved nothing more than having her home filled with the people she loved, especially on Sundays. Every week, she opened her doors and her kitchen, preparing home-cooked meals with enough food for seconds—and still plenty to send home in to-go plates. Seeing her family gathered together brought her the greatest joy.

Dorothy enjoyed many simple pleasures. She wasn’t a flashy person, but she loved dressing up for special occasions, often wearing a sparkly dress with a matching hat. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing card games, making sure everyone followed the rules and the proper turn order. She also loved listening to music and singing along—whether it was an old-school soul song or a gospel hymn, she always lit up, dancing or singing whenever she heard something familiar.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Dianne Thompson; her sisters Willie Mae Thompson, Alberta Carter, and Lizzie Mae Thompson; her brothers Leroy, Henry, Earnest, Andrew, John, and Jimmy Thompson; and her great-grandchild, Aubery Thompson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Joe (Brenda) Thompson, Sammy (Sandra) Walker, Howard (Judy) Walker, and Robert Walker; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family extends special recognition to her dear friends Maxline Hunt, Nancy Moore, Rita Scrugg, Kathy Leckrone and their families, as well as to the compassionate staff at NHC Healthcare.

Dorothy’s life was a testament to love, service and faith. Her presence, her meals, her laughter and her unwavering devotion will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Homegoing services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will take place on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. https://taylorsince1909.com
