Dwight Ray Pewitt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in his hometown of Fairview, Tennessee on August 2, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on April 10, 1949, in the same close-knit community, Dwight’s life was a testament to his deep roots and the strong bonds he cultivated throughout his years.
Ray is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Ruby Pewitt; children, Michella R. Alberson and Dwain (Eva) Pewitt; grandchildren, Justin-Cole McNeil, Megan Byrd, Joseph Alberson, Bailey Alberson, Josh Snow, Daniel Pewitt, Abigail Pewitt, Bentley Pewitt, Arrissa Mangrum, Hailey Mangrum, and Rayland Mangrum; great-grandchildren, Zoey Byrd, Lyla Byrd, Jayson Byrd, Vivyan Byrd, Vivienne Pewitt, Daymian Mangrum, and Brooklynn Mangrum; and siblings, Patricia Bates, Rita (Billy) Jones, Diane Pewitt, and Don (Sherry) Pewitt. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh and Arvel (Stinson) Pewitt; and brother, Randy Pewitt.
He was smart, loveable, hard-working, and never met a stranger. An outdoorsman at heart, he had a passion for coon hunting, anything outdoors, or just sitting in the woods on a creek bank. Ray enjoyed vacationing in Gatlinburg. He was a collector of coins, guns, and knives, he appreciated the stories and history behind each piece. His artistic talents were evident in his pencil drawings and woodworking. His hands were skilled at creating beauty from the raw, whether it be flowers, cabinets, or bookshelves. The cradle he lovingly crafted for his granddaughters stood as a symbol of his dedication to family and his gift for creating heirlooms that would be cherished for generations.
