Evelyn “June” Gibson, 89, of Vanleer, Tennessee, passed away on January 16th, 2024, with her daughters by her side.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Gibson.

June was born to the late Herbert and Evie Jackson in Cumberland Furnace, TN, on March 11, 1934.

She and Bob were married in 1952 and lived together in Conneaut, Ohio, where they raised three surviving daughters: Carolyn Hazen (James Hazen) of Shelby, NC; Sheri Bontrager (Lyle Bontrager) of Memphis, TN; and Terra Kessler (John Kessler) of Cleveland, Ohio.

She is also survived by grandchildren Michael Hazen (Judith), Andy Hazen (Nicole), Jaimie Pocker (Sean), Jessica Hazen (John Gaddis); Laura Bontrager, and Daniel Bontrager. She is further survived by her eight great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Victoria June, and Lucas Hazen; Cole and Asher Hazen; Elvis and Cassius Pocker; and Aerith Gaddis. She leaves behind 3 beloved cats: Lolo, Rowe, and Cupid.

When Bob and June returned to Vanleer, TN, they were surrounded by a wealth of June’s family: two sisters, Brenda Heflin and Teresa Fonseca, and a brother, Bob Jackson (Kathye); and many special nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

Dear to her heart was her beloved chosen family: Mike and Cheryl Kimmel of Conneaut, Ohio, with their children Benjamin, Christopher, and Alex; and Diane Earhart of Dickson, TN, with her children Zac Watkins, Haley Wilson (Jacob) and Tucker.

June cared for so many other people; as one friend said, she “set the pace for kindness and a Jesus-like heart.” She was a wonderful cook, had a playful sense of humor, and showed us all how to love with humility and generosity.

A celebration of her life will be on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2 pm at Spann Funeral Home in Dickson, TN. Visitation will be at noon prior to the memorial service at two. https://www.spannfuneralhome.com
