Farrell “Sonny” Montgomery Greer, age 91 of Dickson, Tennessee passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Dickson Health and Rehab in Dickson, TN.
Farrell was born March 30, 1931, in Memphis, TN to Fara Mae (Moore) and Wallace Greer.
Sonny graduated from Humes High School in 1949. He served 24 years with the Air National Guard with 20 of them in the reserve in Memphis, Tennessee. He worked 34 years for AT&T retiring in 1987 as a Systems Technician.
He and Frances Fracchia married in December 1950, they were happily married 60.5 years. They had 6 children, Mike Greer of Dickson, TN, Donna Nicholson of Hudson, FL, David Greer (Lisa) of Knoxville, TN, Marcia Castner (Todd) of Hudson, FL, Stephen (deceased) and Sharon (deceased).
In 1973 the Greers packed up their family and moved to Dickson, TN due to purchasing Johnny’s Donut Shop which they renamed Fran’s Donut Shop. They kept the shop until 1987. After retiring Sonny and his wife enjoyed camping and fishing; they worked several years for TVA managing Rushing Creek Campground at Land Between the Lakes.
Preceded in death are his children Sharon Mangrum, Stephen Greer, sister Beth Jones and brother Frank Greer, grandchildren Jennifer Greer, Rebecca Hooper Cornejo, Jonathan Hooper, and great-grandson Matthew Greer.
In addition to his children, he leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, 1 niece, and 2 nephews.
No visitation or funeral is planned. There will be a military memorial in Knoxville, TN for the family at the Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
