James Grant (Jay) Ellis passed away from heart failure after a brief illness on January 16, 2026 at the age of 63.
Jay was a Nashville native and a graduate of Hillwood High School. He attended Nashville State Community College and was a long-time employee of LabCorp lab services company and an avid NASCAR fan. He was the best husband, provider and father and a great example of a hard worker. He was faithful through good and bad times, the ups and downs of life. He will be dearly missed by friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sherry Ellis; daughters Nikki Maroof (Zac) and Becca Dixon, stepson Michael (Malorie) Howell; grandchildren Jaycie, Henry, and Elias Maroof, Kailey and Dylan Howell; brother Robert Steven Ellis (Marcy); sisters Laura Chandler Ellis and Eleanor Louise (Ele) Ellis; and his faithful dog Milo.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Robert Ellis, mother Anne Price Ellis, and son-in-law Cory Dixon.
A Memorial visitation and service will be Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Dickson Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Visitation will be Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. until 1 P.M. A memorial service will begin at 1 P.M. with Bro. Scott Dobbins officiating.
