Mary Cetervia Spicer, 71 years of age, known to her family as “Punkin” passed away on January 11, 2026, at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
She was born on November 21, 1954, in Nashville, TN, to the late Leon Cortez and Helen Eugene (Morris) Henderson.
As a homemaker, Mary dedicated her life to creating a nurturing environment for all who entered her home. She was the cornerstone of her family, guiding them with her wisdom and supporting them with her unwavering strength. She found joy and comfort in the simple pleasures of life, such as watching Hallmark movies and television, which mirrored her own values of love, family, and happy endings. Her faith was the compass by which she navigated life, and she was a living example of God’s love, extending her kindness to everyone she met. Known for being exceptionally friendly, Mary never met a stranger. Her sassy wit and sweet demeanor made her a cherished friend to all as well as the residents and nursing staff at the nursing home. To describe Mary as kind and faith-filled is to capture the essence of her being. She approached life with a friendly smile and an open heart, always ready to offer a word of encouragement or a helping hand.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon D. Spicer; and daughter, Cheyenne Fowler. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Kerri (Charles) Hurst, Jimmy Ferguson, and Vernon (Keisha) Spicer, Jr.; grandchildren, Ashton (Heidi) Ferguson, Cheyenne Spicer, Stephanie Fowler, Kensley Harrington, Talyn Garrigus, Doug Garrigus, and Joe Fowler; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Brenda Martin, Kay (Al) Cox, Leon Cortez Henderson, Jr., Donna Ford, and Yvonne Smithson; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Memorial visitation and service will be Friday, January 16, 2026 at Dickson Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Visitation will be Friday, January 16, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. A Memorial service will begin at 2:00 P.M.
