Mary Frances “Poochie” Orgain Hodges, known by family and friends as “Poochie”, age 95 passed away peacefully at her home after a short illness.

Poochie was born in Houston County and was the daughter of the late Wylie Herschel and Annie Laura White Orgain.

She was a graduate of Dickson High School, Class of 1946.

She was preceded in death by her three sisters and their spouses, Emma (Mrs. Thomas) Duke, Evelyn (Mrs. LeeRoy) Eubank and Kate (Mrs. Dean) Weatherspoon, her two brothers and spouse, William Orgain, Richard H. (Dick) (MaryRuth) Orgain and two nephews, Bill Duke and Mike Eubank.

She was the widow of the late Thomas E. (Tommy) Hodges who died in 2009. They were married for some 62 years. They were the owners and operators of the long-time business in downtown Dickson, Hodges Jewelers. Hodges has been in operation for 78 years. Poochie continued to be very active in the business until her death. She was a fixture in retail sales in Dickson and had a personality that truly lit up Main Street. Hodges Jewelers was her life.

Poochie was the longest continuous member of the Order of the Eastern Star Dickson Chapter 291. She was a 76-year member.

While she had no children of her own, she will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews, Brenda (James) Peeler of Bon Aqua, TN, Barbara Jones of Dickson, TN, Betsy Duke of Dickson, TN, Jimmy (Bonnie) Duke of Charlotte, TN, Becky Eubank of Charlotte, TN, Dan (Mary) Eubank of Charlotte, TN, Gary (Patty) Adams of New Johnsonville, TN, Karla (Dan) Miller of Clarksville, TN, Bill Orgain of Dickson, TN, Diane (Gaines) Ramsey of Waynesboro, TN, Pam Scott of Franklin, TN, Daryl (Jan) Hodges, Greencastle, IN, Cheryl (Jim) Bogo of Louisville, Ky, Dawne (Mike) Smith of Cumberland Furnace, TN and Darla (Mike) Murphy of Cumberland Furnace, TN, her sisters-in-law, Jane Hodges of Waynesboro, TN and Barbara McCurdy of Cumberland Furnace, TN, several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, April 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. There are three visitations planned, the first will be on Monday evening, April 1, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and the second will be on Tuesday evening, April 2, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and the third will be on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Final place of rest will be in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens.
