Onita Donaldson Garrett, age 96 of Chattanooga, TN formerly of Dickson, TN passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Born in Dickson County, she was the daughter of the late Guy Dorsey and Sarah Jane Dotson Donaldson and was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Henry C. Garrett and her son, Donald Clay “Boo” Garrett.
Onita worked as a cashier for Dickson Electric Department for 24 years and in bookkeeping at Kerr-McGee for 9 years. She was a member of the Dickson First Methodist Church.
Onita leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished Mamaw. Onita was the heart of her home known for her caring nature and the way she brought people together with her homemade meals. A true southern cook, she had a talent for creating dishes that felt like home. Her recipes were a cherished gift she loved to share with others, always making sure everyone around her felt welcomed and nourished. Her cooking was an expression of love and symbol of family traditions. Onita was an avid football fan who lived for the excitement of the game and often shared the highlights and scores of the games with her grandsons. Onita will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Greg Garrett and his wife Shelley of Chattanooga, TN; her 2 grandchildren, Bradford Garrett and Graham Garrett.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 11 AM until 12:00 PM at Taylor Funeral Home. The family will have a private graveside service. https://taylorsince1909.com
