Mr. Robert L. ‘Bob’ or ‘GangGang’ Murphy passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Nashville’s V. A. Medical Center.

Born in Dickson County, Bob was the son of the late Thomas and Bessie Woods Murphy.

He worked maintenance in Civil Service at Fort Campbell for many years and was also known for his carpentry skills. The love of his life was his family: especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him “GangGang”. He enjoyed coaching baseball and football.

Bob, who grew up in the tobacco field (!), enjoyed farming, tractors, and tractor implements and loved tinkering with them and doing “whatever it took” to keep them in running order! He was also an avid fisherman. Bob was proud of his service in the U. S. Navy and was of the Baptist faith. He was a long-time member of the Vanleer (now Iron-Vanleer) Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Streetman Murphy, Dickson; four sons, Mark Murphy (Patricia) of Cumberland Furnace, Bubba Murphy (Rita) and Robby Murphy (LeeAnn) both of Charlotte, and Scott Murphy (Chelsea), of Dickson; two daughters, Tammy Murphy and Michelle Tidwell (Dana), both of Cumberland Furnace; three sisters, Kay Geisler (Dennis) and Myra Sensing, both of Charlotte, and Sue Briggs (Mike) of Old Hickory; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, Robert Michael Murphy; brothers, Johnny Murphy, James Murphy, Donald Murphy, Charlie Murphy, Jerry Murphy, and Terry Murphy; a sister, Mary Nell Sensing; and by two granddaughters, Harper Tidwell and Brandy Murphy Wynn.

Funeral services with Navy Military Honors for Robert Lacy “Bob” or “GangGang” Murphy, age 86, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2022 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with L. C. Nolen officiating. Interment will follow in Rye’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday from 11 a.m. until service time. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Services are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home. 615-446-2808. http://taylorsince1909.com.
