Velma “Dolly” Sue Harris, age 96, of Charlotte, Tennessee, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
She was born in Lexington, Tennessee, on July 7, 1927, to the late James Haskew Loftin and Sarepta Jane (Powers) Loftin.
She was a member of Mt. Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1946. Dolly worked as a telephone switchboard operator for Western Electric and Bellsouth.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarepta Loftin; husband, Woodrow “Buck” Byrnes Harris; son, Keith Harris; daughter, Kay Harris; brother, Fred Loftin; and niece, Pam Moore.
She is survived by her son, Kevin Harris; nieces and nephews, Linda Roberts, Chad Moore (Theresa), Shelley Ward (Michael), Julie Wilkerson, Spence Roberts, and David Moore; and caregiver, Harmony “Nikki” Kreiss.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 1 pm at Mt. Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Neil Spence officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Liberty Cemetery in Charlotte, Tennessee. Visitation will be Wednesday before the service from 11 am until service hour of 1 pm. Serving as active pallbearers are Chuck Black, Joe Cason, Brance Jenkins, Kenneth Watts, Bobby Lee, and Mark Lamberth. Honorary pallbearers are David Stone and Bob Kullman.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Miss Dolly’s memory may be made to the Mt. Liberty Cemetery Fund.
