A late-night structure fire in Dickson County claimed a life and prompted a large multi-agency emergency response, with investigators now working to determine what caused the blaze.

Tennessee City Fire Rescue responded around 10:20 p.m. on December 20 to a reported fire in the 500 block of Grindstone Hollow Road. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and active fire conditions at the scene.

Firefighters deployed multiple attack lines, including two 1¾-inch handlines and a three-inch line with a blitz attack monitor, while also managing potential hazards such as a nearby 500-gallon propane tank and an adjacent shop building. Additional resources were requested as crews worked to control the fire and secure a reliable water supply.

Assistance was provided by several agencies, including Dickson County Emergency Management, Dickson County Fire Rescue, Sylvia Yellow Creek Fire Department, City of Dickson Fire, Hickman County Fire Rescue, Coble Fire, McEwen Fire, Dickson Electric, Greater Dickson Gas Authority, Dickson County Sheriff’s Office, Dickson County EMS, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The fire was eventually brought under control and fully extinguished. Fire units cleared the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m.

Due to the fatality associated with the fire, investigators with TBI, the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, and Tennessee City Fire Rescue are conducting a joint investigation. Officials say the investigation remains ongoing.
