The Tennsco Corp. hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the renovations to the Lester D. Speyer Sports Park on Thursday, May 8.

The company funded the addition of three tennis courts, three pickleball courts, two basketball courts and a new playground in addition to the three existing tennis courts, four baseball/softball fields and the Tennsco Community Center. Tennsco leases the park to the City of Dickson and it is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Tennsco initially proposed expanding the park to six tennis courts when the Dickson County High School tennis teams were left without a place to play their matches.

Speaking at the ceremony were Van Malone, Tennsco senior vice president of manufacturing who spearheaded the project, Dickson Mayor Don L. Weiss Jr., Dickson County Director of Schools Dr. Christie Southerland, DCHS tennis Coach Dan Dufty and Tennsco CEO and President Stuart Speyer, whose father Lester D. Speyer founded Tennsco in 1962.

The Dickson County Chamber and its Ambassadors presented the ribbon-cutting.
