Kara Thomas of Spot’s Pots began her creative studio in 2012. It has been the leading pottery painting place in Dickson, Tennessee ever since. She has specialized in an array of classes, including clay sculpture, pottery painting, hand impressions, art classes and more. In November, she decided to make some changes so she could spend time with her young and growing family. The studio is now open on Friday and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., and doing other classes and events by appointment.

“When I started my little studio,” said Thomas on her Facebook page, “my life was in a different season, my daughter was a late teen and I had time on my hands to devote to helping your families create memories. Now, with two littles at home, Lily is 1.5 and Steven is 5.5, I need to spend more time with them. I’m not quite ready to pass the baton… special events will still be available, as well as To-Go Kits! If you have any questions or suggestions, please message me! I’m excited to see Spot’s Pots continue to be a place for you to come get creative and make memories with your friends and family!”

Thomas will still be doing birthday parties, church events, bachelorette parties, corporate events, team building events, kid’s parties, school events, and fundraisers. On the days the studio is not open, she is willing to do these types of events by appointment – morning, afternoon or evening.

When coming to the studio on Friday or Saturday to paint a piece of ceramic, each art creator is provided with everything they need to make a special masterpiece. When the painted piece is completed, the pieces will be painted with a clear glaze and fired to perfection. They will be ready for pickup in two weeks.

A long-time fixture in the community, Thomas has donated to various organizations, had end of summer pizza parties for kids, had Santa drop by during the holidays, and had a fundraising event for a community member who lost her home in 2023 to fire. She is not afraid to add a bit of play to the creative process, and she has had baby goats drop by for some of her classes.

She has been a Main Street Best of Dickson County Award finalist for two years as one of THE places to go to find creativity. In 2023, the winner was Face Painting and Balloon Fun by Devona.

Events can be arranged and additional information is available by messaging Thomas on Facebook or by calling her at (615) 495-1027. She would love to answer any questions or set up a class time that will work for any families or groups.

“It’s a great place to have fun at any age,” said one reviewer.
