In response to reports of threats against area schools, Dickson County Director of Schools Dr. Christie Southerland has issued the following statement on Wednesday, September 18:

“Good Morning Families,

This is Christie Southerland, Director of Schools for Dickson County. We want to let you know that we are aware of a recent social media threat that has been circulating in our community. We understand that this news can be concerning, and we want to assure you that the district is taking this matter seriously.

Local law enforcement agencies, including the Dickson County Sheriff’s Department, Dickson Police Department, and the Department of Homeland Security, have thoroughly investigated the post and have determined that it does not pose a credible threat to our schools. The origin of the “screenshot” has been traced to outside of the Dickson County School District.

While the threat has been deemed unfounded, we want to emphasize the importance of responsible online behavior. Please take the time to talk to your children about the consequences of sharing or spreading misinformation on social media. It is crucial that they understand the potential impact of their online actions.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school principal.”
