The City of Dickson Police Department has equipped its new patrol vehicles with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to help officers provide life-saving care during medical emergencies.
The department said the AEDs will allow officers to begin treatment for people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest before emergency medical crews arrive. Police are often the first to reach emergency scenes, and quick access to an AED can greatly improve a person’s chances of survival.
The equipment was purchased under the leadership of Police Chief Seth Lyles as part of an effort to strengthen emergency response throughout the city.
“This investment reflects our commitment to protecting and serving the people of Dickson,” Lyles said. “By placing AEDs in our patrol units, we are increasing our ability to respond to medical emergencies and improving the chances of survival for those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.”
The department said adding AEDs to patrol vehicles is another step toward improving public safety and giving officers the tools they need to respond when every second counts.
