Mr. Clinton “Lamar” Ervin, age 82, of Dickson, Tennessee passed from this life on August 1, 2022, in his home.
He was born on October 4, 1939, to the late Ulysses Clinton Ervin and Georgia Lee Drake Ervin in Dekalb County, TN.
Lamar was married to his wife, Peggy Elam Ervin for over 62 years. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and later obtained his master’s degree from the University of the South at Sewanee.
Mr. Ervin worked for many years as the Administrator of Education for the Tennessee Department of Corrections, overseeing the education systems in numerous prisons throughout the State of Tennessee.
Earlier in his career, he also taught at the Sewanee Military Academy for about 10 years. He was a longtime member of the Dickson First United Methodist Church and an avid fan of the Tennessee Volunteers – GO VOLS!
In addition to his parents, Lamar was preceded in death by a sister: Patricia Ann Marovich.
Survivors include his wife: Peggy E. Ervin, of Dickson; his sons: Clinton Lamar “Clint” Ervin, Jr. (Cynthialynn) and Charles Elam Ervin, both of Murfreesboro; his brother: James Ervin (Carolyn) of Smithville, TN; his grandchildren: Heidi Ervin, Bruce Ervin, and Brian Ervin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Ed White officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, August 4, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. http://taylorsince1909.com
