Kenneth Sterling Ward, 90 years of age, of Dickson, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 8, 2025, at Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, TN.
He was born October 10, 1934, in Roanoke, VA, to the late Sterling Louis and Alma Mae (Smallwood) Ward. In 1953, he married Betty McBride in Roanoke and later that same year, enlisted in the United States Army. In 1967, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He was an engineer in the manufacturing industry and lived in several states during his working career. During his career, he was a board member of the lay witness foundation of North Carolina and an ordained minister who was very involved in the Southern Baptist Convention. Kenneth traveled extensively as an evangelist, traversing from North Carolina down to Florida and west as far as Utah and Arizona. At one point, while working in Texas, Kenneth volunteered as a Chaplain for the El Paso Police Department. He ultimately retired from Gates Rubber Company and moved from Texas to Dickson, TN. He was a skilled storyteller, who never met a stranger, and was an avid reader. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brother, Russell Ward; and sister, Carol Moses. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Gregg (Jackie) Ward and Timothy (Devon) Ward; grandchildren, Meghan (Jacob) Rochelle and Peyton Ward; great-grandchildren, Emma, Maggie, and Emmitt Rochelle; sister, Jean (Curtis) Ritter; and several nieces.
A private graveside service will be attended by family.
