The public and media are invited to a groundbreaking ceremony hosted by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry (TDF) for a new work center to be located in Dickson, Tenn. The ceremony will take place April 25, 2025 at 10 a.m. Central.
The new facility will serve as the headquarters for a team of burn permit writers that serves approximately half of Tennessee’s counties, as well as the office for the area forester for Dickson, Houston, and Humphreys Counties.
It will hold administrative offices and store wildland firefighting equipment, and also provide meeting space for training, outreach activities, and educational events for staff and the public. Additionally, it will be the home of a new seedling cooler, facilitating storage and distribution of bare root seedlings from TDF’s East Tennessee Nursery to the Middle Tennessee region.
State Forester Heather Slayton, Highland Rim District Forester Brian Hughett, and Tennessee Department of Agriculture Deputy Commissioner Andy Holt will be available for media interviews. They’ll be joined by state and local officials as well as Smokey Bear.
