Larry Wayne Robertson, age 75, a lifelong resident of Vanleer, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023, at St. Thomas Midtown after a brief stay.
Larry was reared on a farm in Bell Hollow just outside Vanleer Tennessee. Larry was born January 20, 1947, to the late Austin and Emma Bell Carroll Robertson.
Larry was a graduate of Charlotte High School. After high school, Larry entered the U. S. Army. He served for a time under First Sergeant Mack Adams of Dickson, while at Fort Campbell and later serving a tour in Germany.
After owning his own farm and raising various crops and cattle for several years, he later became a teacher in the Dickson County school system for 10 years, including at Creekwood High School. For 30 years he served students as a proud school bus driver.
A talented and hard -working man, Larry was also a public servant including serving as Vanleer town mayor twice – 2001 to 2005 and 2009 to 2014. He also served on the Vanleer City Council. Larry was a former Dickson County Commissioner.
He was a former realtor and auctioneer for a time with Ragan’s Five Rivers Realty and Auction Company.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother Douglas Robertson, grandparents Bennie and Docia Robertson; Claud and Carrie Bell Carroll, a descendant of the founder of Cloverdale Academy.
Of Larry’s life accomplishments, he was most proud of being a father and grandfather. He truly loved his family. During his service to Dickson County, one could find Larry Robertson everywhere, at church, funerals, and social events. Larry was all about Dickson County. His personality was such that he never met a stranger. He somehow was always first to know the happenings around him.
Larry was very good at playing pool, some might consider him a “pool shark”. He loved his “stuff” and was somewhat a collector of everything. Larry attended church at the Water Street Church of Christ in Charlotte.
Survivors include his two children; April Appleton of Ashland City, TN, his son; Aaron Robertson and his wife Jennifer of Vanleer, TN, his sister; Wanda Cowan and her husband Jimmy, his six grandchildren; Austin Appleton (Jessica), Laura Appleton, Jada Appleton, Sidney Robertson, Sawyer Robertson, Stone Robertson, his two great-grandchildren; Nataleigh and Winston. One niece and three nephews, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, September 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. Bro. Thomas Southerland will officiate. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.; Sunday beginning at 12 noon until time of service.
