Roberta Proctor Selby, age 84 of Dickson, TN, passed peacefully at her sister’s home on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
Roberta was born on March 18, 1940 in Cumberland Furnace, TN.
Roberta, better known as Ro Ro, was considered to be the most kind and loving person. She was known to speak her mind, therefore thought of as being “sassy”. Though life threw her many hardships, she somehow took it all in stride, always watching over her family with great concern, never complaining.
She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great grandbabies. She would walk to the little church down the road where she taught herself to play the piano by ear. Later, she sold her cow “Dolly” and bought a bass fiddle, which she carried on the top of her car to play music with country bands. One of her greatest pleasures was playing piano at church.
She was of high intelligence, loved reading, and listening to radio talk shows. Later in life, after she lost her eyesight, she enjoyed listening to news and alien/ufo shows. Roberta loved the Lord and constantly studied her Bible, always quoting her favorite verses. Her favorite song was “Higher Than I’ve Ever Been”. She loved garden vegetables, coffee and sweet tea.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Raymond Proctor and Ruby Harvey McCaleb; her children, Donna King, Kerry Heggie, Sandra Heggie; and granddaughter, “KiKi” Rye.
Roberta is survived by her daughter, Marney Higdon (Joe); her brothers, Dale and Bugs Proctor; her sister, Linda Barefoot; her granddaughters, Mandy Atkins (Todd) and Jennifer Heggie; grandsons, Jason Heggie, and Caden Higdon; great grandchildren, Chase Mercer, Brandon and Brayson Atkins, Rayna Rye; great great grandchildren, Carter and Isabella Mercer; several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held on at the Union Cemetery with Pastor Wes Sesler officiating. https://taylorsince1909.com
