Rodney Alvin Biter, age 81, of Dickson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

He was born July 9, 1943, the youngest of 11 children and the seventh son, to the late James A. Biter and Lina Underwood Biter of Cunningham, Tennessee, in Montgomery County.

He graduated from Montgomery Central High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University. He earned his Master’s in Education and post-graduate Ed.S. from Northern Colorado, Greely.

He met his future wife, Louise, at the Frosty Jug ice cream shop in Dickson, and they later married on December 30, 1967, in Charlotte, TN. They moved to Dickson where they raised their two children.

For a few early years in the late 1960s, he worked nights part-time as a radio disc jockey for Dickson’s local radio station, WDKN.

He began his career in education at Dickson Elementary School, teaching social studies. He later became a guidance counselor in secondary education at Dickson Junior High School. He retired from the Dickson County School System in 2005 after nearly 40 years of service in the field of education.

He became involved in local politics. He campaigned for and was elected as a Dickson County Commissioner and served from 1978-1982.

He loved to travel and took annual vacations to spend time with his family. Special destinations included Hawaii and Alaska, where he had always wanted to go, in his pursuit of visiting nearly all 50 states. He enjoyed trips to the beach, camping trips in state parks, and boating in rivers and lakes with his family.

He was a man of many interests. His children were impressed by how he could water-ski, roller skate, and dance. One of his favorite things to do was to enjoy Saturdays. He would spend time in Cunningham, TN, where he grew up, to visit family and friends. He would shop at regional area flea markets. He was an avid automobile enthusiast. He bought and sold many vehicles, motorcycles and 4-wheelers as a hobby with his son, Brad. A big part of his enjoyment was conversations with the many people he came in contact with.

He enjoyed music, history, reading and genealogy. He diligently researched and gathered information to help compile a book entitled History of the Biter / Beiter / Beuter Families, authored by Rupert Biter, which was published in 1976. He presented a copy to the Dickson County Public Library.

Faith was an important part of his life. He was an active long-time member of First Baptist Church of Dickson. His intellect, wit, and ease in engaging people were a part of his appeal. He was a devoted husband and father. He was dedicated to supporting his family, which he enjoyed immensely. He was present at every ball game, dance and piano recital, church and school choir concert. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by brothers Edward (Joanne), Craigon (Joyce), Fred (Betty Jo), Robert (Rosalie), and Donald (Maraby); sisters Mary Elizabeth (John Albert) Jones, Betty (James) Evans, and Nancy (Donald) Felts.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Louise Lewis Biter and their daughter Amy (John) Glennon and son, Brad Biter; sister Shirley (Lawrence) Yarbrough and brother, Frank Biter; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
