A Celebration of Life service will take place on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Basil Westcott officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Humane Society of Dickson County.

Mr. Virgil Wayne Duke, age 83 of White Bluff, TN, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Optimum Assisted Living in White Bluff. He was born on January 18, 1938, in Dickson County to the late Morris E. and Eleanor Potter Duke.

Virgil worked for many years as a crane operator with McCord Crane Service. He proudly served his great country in the United States Army. He was also a member of the Rock Church of Christ.

Mr. Duke was one of the greatest storytellers of all time. He loved to fish and to spend time on his John Deere Tractor and was known to be able to fix or repair anything he put his mind to.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife: Paulette Cathey Duke who passed in 2009; a grandchild: Jeremmy Erranton; and two great-grandchildren: Lydia and Jackson Deaton.

Survivors include his daughters: Debbie Erranton (Robert) of Dickson, Michelle Woods (Mark) of Smyrna, Misty Hooper, and Meghan Hayes (Bobby) both of White Bluff; his sisters: Janie Reed of Nashville and Wanda Holley (Andy) of Dickson; grandchildren: Michelle Gadd (Chris) of Dickson, Stephen Deaton of Dickson, Blake Deaton (Hillary) of Charlotte, Deric Kizer of White Bluff, Kortney Spaulding (Austin) of White Bluff, Brian Hayes of White Bluff, and Brantley Hayes of White Bluff; as well as 8 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Caris Hospice, Optimum Assisted Living, Dr. Mohana Karlekar, and the Staff of Taylor Funeral Home.
