If you love taters, I mean really love taters, the place to go to indulge your passion is Dickson’s Tater Shack. It is located at 313 Highway 46 South in Dickson, Tennessee.
There is nothing fancy about the location, the building it is located in actually does look like a shack, but it is filled with country character. And everything is made from scratch.
“It is kind of dive-y,” said one customer online, “but cute and clean! Restrooms are well maintained as well as the rest of the place!”
“So, it has a drive thru and you can phone in an order,” said another, “BUT GO IN to capture the humor ALONG [with] a great satisfying meal!! Explore the walls, nooks and crannies!”
Tater Shack has 25 different types of stuffed baked potato. They range from the Old-Fashioned Tater, which is filled with the classics of margarine, sour cream, cheese, chives and bacon bits, to the Barbecue Taters to the fancier Cordon Blue Tater filled with ham, chicken, and Swiss cheese. Customers rave about the Sirloin Tip and the Tex Mex Taters.
“I ordered the mythical Pot Roast Potato,” added another diner. “The flavorful beef, sweet carrots, shredded cheese, plus the butter flavor made this an unforgettable experience! Usually, never enough potatoes with a pot roast, not here! It also has a couple of small tasty corn muffins.”
While they built their reputation on their stuffed baked potatoes, they do offer other items, including nachos, hot dogs, sandwiches, wraps, and salads.
Nachos are offered in 10 different varieties. They have stripped down chips and cheese for those who like it simple to Supreme Nachos for those who like all of the fixings. For a twist try the Buffalo Chicken Nachos.
If you like an old-fashioned bologna sandwich, this is the place to come. Customers have called it the best bologna sandwich they have ever had. And there is nothing quite like a good ol’ bologna on white bread with some lettuce and some mayonnaise.
Tater Shack offers promotional merchandise for sale with their motto, “If you think our taters are big, you should see our wieners.” The selection is also expansive. There are regular hot dogs, Polish dogs, all beef hot dogs, Kielbasa, and specialty dogs in quarter and half pound varieties.
“Prices are very reasonable,” said another diner. “[There is] bottled as well as fountain drinks, plus tea. They also have a lot of desserts.”
Desserts are all homemade and always changing, They have had peanut butter cup pie, fresh strawberry shortcake with strawberry topping and Cool Whip, banana pudding, no-bake cookies, brownies, and their newest dessert, Pineapple Dream.
“Absolutely love this place,” exclaimed a reviewer. “Used to eat there a lot when I lived in Dickson. I now live over an hour away and try to get over there at least once a month to get a tater! Love the food and the service is awesome, too!!”
Besides their regular menu, Tater Shack has lots of specials. They have opened a second location in White Bluff.
